Decorating for Fall

Updated: Apr 30

Here comes Autumn – we’re here to help you with your decorating for fall! As your wardrobe changes for the fall, so does your home.  We want coziness, fluffy, textured throws to curl up in, warm tea, and we also want the warm colours inside to remind us of the beauty outside.

A great place to start your fall decorating is with your dining table.  If you’re in the market for a new table, consider a medium-to-dark warm tone for the stain.  This is a classic look that will never go out of style and it’s very easy to dress up for a formal dinner and just as easy to dress down for a child’s birthday party.

What Type of Wood

Also, consider the look of the table top itself as this is a good way to add texture and warmth to your home.  Wormy maple (also known as rustic or vintage maple) is rife with character as shows more grain than regular maple and has natural worm holes.  We can add some distressing to the table or give it our Heritage finish by randomly hand-planing the table top much like a hand-scraped hardwood floor to give you a current and homey look.

Rough cut pine is also in this season as this look mimics a reclaimed barn board table top.  A bonus of the rough cut finish is that the table top already has saw marks and a rougher look which can conceal surface scratches that your children may add to your top (after applying touch up stain, of course).  Rough cut pine is a beautiful look with any stain – from light to medium to really dark.  Again this can be dressed up or down quite easily.  Pair the table with formal upholstered dining chairs or simple, chunky wood chairs.

Colours & Centrepieces

These are two great tables to dress for the fall that will look great through all seasons!  To bring out the warmth in your home, add a warm toned runner with reds, yellows and oranges to your new or existing dining table.  Or combine a simple, trendy, burlap runner with some large scale candle holders at either end and either a fall floral arrangement or bowl of mini-pumpkins mixed with gourds and pine cones as a centrepiece and you’re on your way to a great look for fall!
