Times are changing once again! We’re finding people doing interesting things with the chairs around their dining tables. Gone are the days of a set of side chairs with the matching arm chair at either end. People are doing several different options with upholstered dining chairs to create their own eclectic style!
Instead of having two arm chairs, try two upholstered or leather chairs at either end of the table. This is an incredible look for a formal dining room. The options for upholstered chairs are endless! Choose from tufted back, button back, bold shiny nail heads around the entire chair or just around the base of the seat, or non-shiny nail heads for a little “bling” without being overpowering. A simple Parsons chair is a classic look; or choose one with a rounded back that will curve to hug your back. Try a pattern on the chairs and matching upholstered seats of the side chairs, or upholstering with a solid fabric on the seat and front of the chair but a different, pattern fabric, on the back of the chair, Wow!
Keep in mind that the chairs at the head of your dining table should make a presence in the formal space. Upholstered chairs as a good rule of thumb should be the same back height or higher than the side chairs. These chairs can also perform a double duty. They can be pulled into the living room area when extra seating is needed and look wonderful.
This is a great idea for people in condos who have minimal space. Take your look one step further and have your whole chair set done with a mix of two fabrics! Don’t be afraid to experiment, it’s the only way to get the look you desire for your dining room!
